SHS Group's Elaine Birchall takes over as CBI Northern Ireland chair

The head of Belfast-based SHS Group has been appointed as the new chair of CBI Northern Ireland.

Elaine Birchall MBE takes over the role from Adrian Doran, Barclays Head of Corporate Banking (NI), who now takes up the post of vice chair until the end of 2022.

With a background in leadership roles for Colgate Palmolive and PZ Cussons, Ms Birchall has been head of SHS Group since 2015 and CBI vice chair since January 2021.

She said she looking forward to taking up her new role.

“There is such a wealth of talent, and enterprise in Northern Ireland and, by speaking with one voice, businesses can continue to optimise and influence outcomes for our society. I am committed to ensuring CBI continues to play an integral role in creating a thriving NI economy to benefit everyone,” Ms Birchall said.

“Throughout the pandemic, the CBI has led the way in terms of working with business and government to support companies. We will continue to act as an agent of change as we look at investment in innovation, skills and sustainability. These are the foundations on which we can build a competitive, dynamic, future-focused NI economy for the decade ahead.”

SHS Group supplies a number of own-brand products - Shloer, WKD, Merrydown Cider, Meridian nut butters and other consumer products - and distributes others on behalf of other brand owners to retailers across the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ and Ireland.

Angela McGowan, CBI Northern Ireland director, welcomed Ms Birchall on her appointment.
