Diners and guests at the five-star Shangri-La Hotel in The Shard will be using tableware produced by a Birmingham-based silversmith.

Heritage Collection beat international competition to win the contract to supply thousands of pieces of silver and stainless steel tableware to the tower in London. It also recently won the Palomar.

The Shangri-La Hotel occupies floors 34 to 52 of the award-winning building and this contract is one of just a few placed with º£½ÇÊÓƵ-based companies by the Hong Kong-based hotel group.

Heritage Collection, a family business based in and founded in 1976, is supplying thousands of pieces of cutlery and tableware to the hotel for use throughout its dining, banqueting and room service facilities.

The pieces were designed by designer Nathalie McDonagh and production of the pieces required the use 170 new tools and dies.

Ms McDonagh said: "The design for each piece for the contract needed to be sympathetic to the design of the hotel, with clean, simple lines.

"Each piece in silver had to be replicated in stainless steel which was technically challenging as stainless steel is a harder, less-forgiving material than silver."

The Shangri-La Hotel has 202 rooms and suites and Heritage's products will be used in the Ting restaurant and GONG - London's highest cocktail and champagne bar.
