The contract to promote Birmingham’s best-known store has been wrestled away from Manchester after it was won by a city firm.

Selfridges has appointed Clive Reeves Public Relations, based on Faraday Wharf, to support its Birmingham store.

The firm takes over from SKV Communications in Manchester, which had overseen the store’s public relations for years.

CRPR’s principal consultant David Kuczora said the aim was to help the store to reinforce its presence in the region by working closely with businesses, arts organisations and universities to put on a programme of high-profile engagement activity.

He said: “The city is steeped in culture and has thriving arts, culinary and fashion scenes. We will work closely with Selfridges to make sure they are at the vanguard of innovation, wherever that lies here in Birmingham.”

CRPR is recruiting Tom Cullen, an experienced lifestyle journalist who has previously worked for ShortList Media and FHM, as a consultant to the account, which it won after a four-way competitive pitch.
