Robert Peston is to be the guest speaker at the Journalists’ Charity’s annual fundraising lunch in October.

The BBC’s economics editor will talk about his career and answer questions at the event at Warwickshire Country Cricket Club in Edgbaston on October 16.

The lunch has been organised by the West Midlands branch of the charity, which works to help journalists in need.

Mr Peston has won numerous awards for his journalism, including Journalist of the Year, Specialist Journalist of the Year and Scoop of the Year (twice) from the Royal Television Society, Performer of the Year from the Broadcasting Press Guild, and Broadcaster of the Year and Journalist of the Year from the Wincott Foundation.

Before joining the BBC he was political editor and financial editor of the Financial Times, City editor of the Sunday Telegraph and a columnist for the New Statesman and Sunday Times.

He notably broadcast and published a series of influential reports about the causes and consequences of the global financial crisis.

Derek Inman, chairman of the West Midlands branch of the charity, said Mr Peston is expected to prove a big draw at the event.

“We are delighted to have Robert join us,” said Mr Inman.
