A report into the management of the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch has called on the Board of Directors to resign as the 鈥榗risis鈥 into the hospital鈥檚 future continues.

The probe commissioned by local campaigners also urged the local Clinical Commissioning Group to urgently hold a public consultation into the options available for future services in Redditch. Options would include a takeover from the University Hospitals Birmingham, which runs

The report, backed by the Save the Alex Campaign, also called on Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust, which runs the Worcester Royal, Kidderminster and the Alexandra hospitals, to assess whether services would be better run with the Trust dissolved.

The report said: 鈥淭he Trust Development Agency should consider appointing a new Board.

鈥淎t the very least a turnaround team should be put in to help the Trust improve and to oversee the significant cash resources (estimated at 拢30 million) given to the Trust by the TDA in 2014/15.

鈥淭he CCGS should urgently and within two months commence a public consultation on a range of options for the future provision of all of WAHT鈥檚 services, including the Alex possibly being transferred to UHB.

鈥淔ailure to tackle this immediately could lead to service failures and temporary service closures which then become permanent.鈥

The report comes just weeks after five A&E consultants resigned from the Alexandra Hospital, which serves around 200,000 patients a year, after 鈥榮uccessive management decisions have undermined services at the Alexandra Hospital: These in turn have led to the self-fulfilling prophecy of failing and unsustainable services.鈥

Neil Stotes, Chair of the Save the Alex Campaign, added: 鈥 The report makes clear that all options need to be considered up to the highest levels at the Trust.

鈥淚鈥檓 optimistic that the CCG will seriously consider the findings in this report.

鈥淭o continue to say that 鈥榠t is business as usual鈥 is just not an option.鈥欌 A spokesman for the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust said they had not been asked to contribute to the report: 鈥淥ur Board鈥檚 focus is on the continuing safety of our patients.鈥
