One of Birmingham's wealthiest entrepreneurs has bought the Giraffe restaurant chain from Tesco.

Ranjit Boparan, who owns 2 Sisters Food Group and fish and chip brand Harry Ramsden's, is to acquire Giraffe as the supermarket giant continues to sell off under-performing assets.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Mr Boparan, whose group also includes brands such as Fox's Biscuits and Goodfella's pizza, will pick up 54 standalone Giraffe restaurants, three of which are within Tesco stores.

Locally, Giraffe has restaurants in Grand Central in Birmingham, Solihull and Birmingham Airport.

Mr Boparan and his wife Baljinder co-founded 2 Sisters Food Group and are now said to be worth £850 million,

Mr Lewis said: "As we stabilise the business in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ, we continue to focus on where we can best serve the needs of our customers while ensuring our business remains sustainable for the long term."

In addition to Giraffe, Tesco is selling its operations in Turkey, called Kipa, to Migros which will net the supermarket £30 million.
