A director of one of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s biggest business organisations has called for a “clear action plan” following the publication of the Government’s race disparities report.

The 258-page document has been criticised after it found no evidence Britain is "institutionally racist" - and said campaigners use the term too loosely.

Matthew Fell, chief º£½ÇÊÓƵ policy director of the CBI, said while progress had been made, there was “a long way to go” - and he called for companies to be more “transparent” over the ethnicity pay gap.

“Closing the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s ethnicity pay gap is about making our society fairer and more inclusive. But there’s a strong business case too,” said Mr Fell.

“Diverse companies perform better on every metric. Disclosing ethnicity pay gaps is one of the most transformative steps a company can take to address race inequality at work.

“Publishing a clear action plan to tackle any disparities - and reporting on progress made – is key to turn momentum into lasting change.”

The race disparities commission was set up by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020 - following George Floyd’s death in the US.

It was led by education consultant and ex-charity boss Tony Sewell and people from science, education, economics, broadcasting, medicine, and policing backgrounds.
