The NHS counted for 31.2% (1.67 million)  of all people employed in the public sector and 5.1% of all people in paid work in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

There were 1.05 million people employed in public administration.

The figures show a continuing trend of more people employed in central government and fewer people employed in local government, due mainly to some local authority schools in England converting to academy status.

The number employed in central government reached a record high of 3.20 million for March 2019.

This is up 27,000 (0.9%), compared with December 2018 and up 111,000 (3.6%) compared with March 2018.
