Primark's new Black Country store ready for launch

£7.8 million Old Square Shopping Centre to welcome discount clothing retailer as major development marks key milestone

A major step will be marked this week in a £7.8 million retail development in the Black Country.

Discount clothing chain Primark will open its latest store in Walsall on Thursday, forming the first completed part of the Old Square shopping centre redevelopment.

A Midlands Co-op Food Store next door will open during the autumn.

The Primark store will be 44,000 sq ft and the firm's 169th in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ and 289th worldwide.

The old shopping centre, which included a Tesco store, was demolished in March last year to mark the start of the town centre regeneration.

Primark is also planning two new stores in Birmingham, one at the Fort Shopping Park in Erdington, and the second will see the

Waslall Council has invested £7 million into the development which is creating 170 new jobs.

Council deputy leader Adrian Andrew said: "I'm delighted that we have finally completed this exciting project.
