Plans have been lodged to build the new HS2 station in Solihull.

The new station, known as Interchange, will be 1.2 miles east of the NEC campus and Birmingham Airport and will be connected via an automated people mover.

Submission of this planning application follows the recent unveiling of revamped designs for both Interchange and its sister site Curzon Street, in Birmingham city centre.

Phase one of HS2, which was recently given government backing, will connect Birmingham and London and have four stations at Euston and Old Oak Common in the capital, Interchange and Curzon Street.

It is expected to be completed by 2031.

HS2 Ltd, the Government company set up to deliver the project, said: "The Interchange station has two 415m long island platforms, with six tracks, two in the centre for the through trains and four serving the double-face platforms for the stopping trains.

"It has been designed to serve five, 400m long high-speed trains per hour, in each direction.
