Iliad submits £30m plans for Liverpool city centre hotel hoped to create 250 jobs

Plans revealed for new £30m Liverpool city centre hotel set to create 250 jobs

Liverpool developer Iliad has submitted plans for a new hotel in the city centre in a move hoped to create up to 250 jobs.

The company, which is behind various residential and commercial building schemes across the North West over the last 35 years, has put forward plans for a 190-bed hotel on Duke Street, hoped to continue the regeneration of Liverpool’s Ropewalks district.

Iliad said it will invest £30m in the development which has been designed by Tim Groom Architects. The firm said the project will create up to 150 jobs in the building process, and over 100 new jobs at the hotel.

It will occupy a car park space between Duke Street and Parr Street and a 1950s building which was used as office space and later as a temporary base for Liverpool Media Academy.

However the plans have proven controversial, with an opposing petition on Change.org having received 150 signatures.

A spokesperson for Iliad said: “We are incredibly excited to have submitted plans for this prestigious hotel development which will further continue the regeneration and renaissance of the Ropewalks community.

"The design of this building is we believe something very special, and will enhance considerable the built environment on Duke Street, Creating Shop Frontage and replacing a bland wall, and mock Victorian 1958 Frontage warehouse.
