Social housing providers Adra and North Wales Housing have drawn up plans to develop 21 new affordable homes in a joint venture to help meet the housing need in Conwy county.

The social landlords are working in partnership for the first time on a proposed Penrhyn Bay development.

They are asking local residents to submit any questions about the £3.8m scheme ahead of a virtual webinar with Adra and North Wales Housing, to see the plans and talk through the proposals, at 7pm on December 9.

The Plas Penrhyn scheme includes eight 3-bed and eight 2-bed houses, four 2-bed bungalows and one 2-bed bungalow with wheelchair access.

The new affordable homes, including homes for social rent, would be constructed using environmentally friendly solar panels, mechanical ventilation and heat recovery systems, as well as to the highest zero carbon Passivhaus standard, which minimises heat loss, typically reducing heating costs for residents by more than 75%.

Proposals for Plas Penrhyn include a community garden where residents can grow their own food.

The partnership have submitted a successful application to access funding from the Welsh Government’s Innovative Housing Programme, which aims to increase the supply of affordable housing across Wales, as well as receiving social housing grant for the Penrhyn Bay scheme.
