Plans for new hotel near Everton's new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium rejected by Liverpool Council

It's a setback for the developer, who said the hotel would be a 'positive contemporary development'

Proposals to build an eight-storey hotel near Everton's new Bramley-Moore Dock football stadium have been turned down by the council.

Liverpool Council has rejected plans put forward by property firm Knightsbridge for the land next to Sandhills station, set to become a key link to the Premier League club's new ground.

It comes after they got permission for the stadium plans last month - with the club set to invest in a slew of improvements to Sandhills, according to the Local Democracy Reporting service.

However, a separate application from Knightsbridge for a 174-bed hotel next to the station has been refused.

In its rejection notice, Liverpool Council said the hotel would result in the loss of industrial land, despite a planning statement from the developer saying it would be a "positive contemporary development".

The report read: "The scheme provides a strong presence and will act as a visual key on this prominent site.

"The proposed high quality development will be a positive addition to the local community and represents a viable opportunity to develop a site for a suitable use for its prominent location.

"The scheme is an attractive feature that will provide local buildings of interest."
