Plans in for huge new Liverpool hotel close to football stadiums and towering over Sandhills station

It's hoped that plans will be approved later this month

A large new hotel could soon be built close to the city's football stadiums and towering over a Liverpool train station, if plans are approved by the council.

The ambitious proposals are for a 174-bed facility spread out over eight floors and complete with a bar and restaurant.

Developers FSF Estates have said the hotel will be "ideally situated for the two football grounds", and hope plans can be approved by the authority's planning committee later this month.

The occupier of the hotel is as yet unknown, however there is speculation it could be the Premier Inn group, as the firm's branding is used in the design and access statement released by the developer.

A spokesman for FSF said: "The scheme provides a strong presence and will act as a visual key on this prominent site. The proposed high quality development will be a positive addition to the local community and represents a viable opportunity to develop a site for a suitable use for its prominent location.

"The scheme is an attractive feature that will provide local buildings of interest. The high quality design and landscaping will look to ensure this sits well within the local context and not just be a neutral addition but a positive contemporary development in the area."

The site is currently occupied by a three-storey building with a car park, with the entrance on the doorstep of Sandhills train station - situated within walking distance of Anfield, Goodison Park, and Everton's proposed new Bramley Moore Dock stadium.

It will have dark grey cladding along with windows and panels in a "randomised pattern". It would have 114 standard rooms, 42 family rooms and 18 large rooms.
