Plans for five new hotels containing nearly 1,000 rooms were approved by Liverpool City Council's planning committee on Tuesday.

Proposals were given the green light for large new developments on Hanover Street, Prescot Street, Princes Dock and Norfolk Street, with a fifth smaller application on Westminster Road.

Two of the applications were brought back to the committee having been approved at previous meetings with new amendments to be considered, while three were completely new.

Here are the full details of each approved application, with the five totalling 973 new hotel bedrooms in total:

274-bed hotel in the Knowledge Quarter

Planning permission was approved for a 274-bed hotel at Elliot Group's £100m Aura scheme on the junction of Prescot Street and Low Hill.

The development will replace a formerly-consented 142-unit apartment scheme, and is designed to "capitalise on known operator demand" in the expanding Knowledge Quarter, said Elliot Group director Elliot Lawless.

He added: “We know from the competition among operators to secure the hotel at Paddington Village that there is unmet demand for quality accommodation in the Knowledge Quarter.

“Our proposals will enable operators keen to service the area’s growing business, medical and academic sectors to secure a prominent site in the heart of the area."
