Plans approved for hundreds of homes and a large new Hilton hotel in Rochdale

£50m scheme, which includes potential office space, is a 'significant step forward' for the town's wider regeneration

How the Rochdale development is hoped to look

Plans have been approved for a large new Hampton by Hilton hotel as well as hundreds of homes in Rochdale town centre.

Rochdale Borough Council on Thursday gave the green light to the £50m mixed-use plans which will now be delivered in a joint venture between Genr8 Developments and Kajima.

The two firms will work in partnership with the council and Rochdale Development Agency for the scheme located at Penn Street and New Baillie Street.

It will comprise two private rent apartment blocks spanning nine storeys with a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments.

The 55,000sq ft Hampton by Hilton hotel will be developed across seven floors.

The approval also includes 44,000 sq ft of office space – but that part of the scheme will only be built out if an occupier is secured.

Mike Smith from Genr8 Developments said: “This is another significant step-forward in the wider regeneration of Rochdale. We are really pleased with the planning approval and look forward to kickstarting this exciting scheme.

“This scheme will deliver high quality hospitality, living and working space in a sustainable, thriving, and eclectic neighbourhood. Having a major brand such as Hilton as part of the development at this stage is extremely exciting.”
