Plans for 650 flats, commercial space and a hotel have been submitted for a renowned former scrap metal site in Liverpool's Baltic Triangle.

The old Norton Scrap Metals site on the junction between Chaloner Street and Upper Parliament Street could be turned into a major city development, with blueprints having been submitted to the city council that include three tower blocks.

It would contain a mix of flats and commercial space, with 650 apartments planned in total.

Two of the towers would stand at 16 storeys, with the third standing at 32 storeys, .

One of the buildings would also house a hotel and all three would have roof terraces looking out on to Liverpool's waterfront on one side and towards the Anglican Cathedral on the other.

The development has been named Norton Point in planning documents submitted by Chalenor Street Developments' Robert Taylor.

A statement submitted with the application says the developer's aim for the towers to "build on and enhance" the Baltic's distinctive appearance.
