A public consultation has begun after plans were unveiled for a 'highly sustainable' new housing estate in Wilmslow. Bellway, the developer, is proposing to build 135 properties – each equipped with rooftop solar panels and electric vehicle chargers – on a site off Cumber Lane.
If approved, the homes would vary from two-bedroom to six-bedroom properties, with 30% (41 properties) categorised as 'affordable'. The proposed 13.5-acre site is situated 1.5 miles from Wilmslow town centre and is surrounded by existing residential properties to the north off Leigh Road, partially by Lindow Fold Drive to the East, Clay Lane and open fields to the west, and open fields to the south.
The planned new estate would also feature a children's play area and green space. The company is currently conducting pre-application discussions with Cheshire East Council and consulting with the public on its proposals.
The firm stated that it intends to submit a planning application early in the New Year and, if approved, commence construction later in 2025. Consultation documents published online state: "Bellway is proposing a high-quality and deliverable scheme, which through sustainable design, will respond to the context of the surrounding area.
"Bellway's recent development at Alderley Park demonstrates their commitment to design quality and ability to prepare bespoke house types befitting of the area.", reports .
The statement continued: "There are excellent links with Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Knutsford, and Altrincham. The M6 motorway to the south, M60 to the north with the M56 and Manchester airport to the west. There are several bus connections which are a short walk from the site, offering direct connections to local town centres. There are bus and train services connecting through to Manchester and Greater Manchester."
The consultation website mentioned that a leaflet has been distributed to local residents. Feedback can also be submitted itself or by emailing: wilmslowconsultation@ashtonhale.co.uk by December 4.
