The ambitious plan to construct thousands of new homes in the Hyde countryside has advanced further. Developer MADE Partnership and Tameside Council have agreed to collaborate on the Godley Green Garden Village project - a flagship initiative for Tameside Council.
This development is set to be one of the largest of its kind in Greater Manchester, potentially bringing 2,150 homes to the region. The masterplan received outline permission from the planning panel last November.
The proposed 'village' will be divided into two halves by Godley Brook, each featuring its own centre, with up to 1,300 sqm of retail space, 1,600 sqm of commercial area, and 1,000 sqm dedicated to community use. According to the local authority, MADE Partnership - a joint venture between Barratt Redrow plc, Homes England, and Lloyds Banking Group - was formed to provide the necessary expertise, vision, and financial capacity to execute large-scale and complex developments like Godley Green.

The agreement with Tameside Council marks MADE Partnership's first announced deal since its launch in September, following its recent acquisition of land at Godley Green.
During the initial period of exclusivity, MADE Partnership and Tameside Council will collaborate with current developers and landowners to devise a comprehensive master development strategy for the site. The two entities aim to finalise the terms of their master development partnership by 2025, with aspirations to commence on-site work in early 2026, reports .
Coun Eleanor Wills, Executive Leader of Tameside Council, said: "Our initial discussions about putting an Exclusivity Agreement in place with MADE Partnership are incredibly exciting."
She also praised MADE Partnership's potential impact: "MADE Partnership is a unique organisation with the vision and expertise that could significantly contribute to our end goal, which is the successful delivery of a sustainable, well-designed place that will benefit the new and existing communities."
Once formed, this partnership will oversee the garden village's development, ensuring the project's vision and strategy are upheld, coordinating stakeholder involvement, funding and installing essential infrastructure, preparing land for housebuilders, delivering a social value strategy, and establishing long-term stewardship.
