Proposals to build four 'bespoke' homes on farmland in Shirley have been lodged with planners.

A.J. Upton Development Ltd wants to build the five and four-bedroom homes, with private gardens and double garages, on land at Birchy Farm in Birchy Leasowes Lane.

A planning statement included with the application said: "The site lies adjacent to the existing Birchy Farm property and Birchy Barns.

"The surrounding area is residential in character, comprising a variety of dwellings.

"The proposal site sits directly adjacent to the proposed Solihull Local Plan allocation known as 'Blythe 1', which is the subject of a live outline application for up to 450 homes."

A design and access statement, written by planning agents Thurston King Architects, said: "The design has been carefully developed to respond sensitively to the existing local character and surrounding context.

"In line with Solihull Council's guidance, careful attention has been given to ensuring adequate privacy and avoiding overlooking of neighbouring properties through appropriate window placement and the use of screening where necessary.

"The mix of homes responds well to local housing needs and contributes positively to the borough's housing strategy."
