DJs and nightclubs from across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ have issued an urgent plea to the Government for financial support - claiming "over 80%" of these businesses will not survive beyond the end of this month.

The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) is leading the calls, saying that the Government has only provided "limited and hugely disproportionate support" for the sector.

A survey of 100 nightclubs across the country found they had suffered "extreme financial hardship" for 11 months, with many seeing February as the "last stand" for their future.

It's claimed that without "urgent" action, 2021 will see the "extinction" of these businesses.

Michael Kill, CEO of the NTIA, pointed to several factors he said would cause venues to go out of business in 2021, in the absence of Government support.

Those included proposed changes to planning laws allowing landlords to convert venues into housing, and a lack of transparent exit strategy for the reopening of the sector.

Mr Kill said: “We are on the cusp of losing a cultural institution, the Government has ignored the sector and failed to recognise its economic and cultural value.”

“We are a world leader in electronic music and clubs - and have been a breeding ground for contemporary music talent, events and DJs for decades. Nightclubs have made a huge contribution to our culture sector and are renowned globally.
