The number of jobs in the East Midlands has grown by more than 270,000 since the height of the financial slump.

There were 2.21 million jobs in the East Midlands in the second quarter of 2008 - when the financial crash started.

The number of jobs then dropped to a low of 2.14 million in the three months to June 2009, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The data shows it was back up to 2.41 million jobs as of June this year.

It means our region has seen a rise of 203,000 jobs since the start of the financial crisis - an increase of 9 per cent - and by 271,000 since the low in June 2011.

Since June 2008, the population in our region has grown by 8 per cent, meaning that job growth has outpaced population growth.

Certain industries have fared better than others.

The property sector saw the biggest increase from the start of the downturn to now.
