More than 70 jobs look set to be lost at a meat processing plant in Llay, near Wrexham.

US food firm Tyson Foods said it is exploring options - including discontinuing the operations or selling the Wrexham facility.

Unite the union said it was devastating news for the “loyal and dedicated” workforce.

A Tyson Foods spokeswoman said: “Putting this proposal forward was a very difficult decision.

“It was based on a combination of factors including our ability to generate profitable growth and our need to adapt to shifting customer needs.

“We are currently consulting with our team members in Wrexham about the proposal to discontinue operations on 30 September 2020.”

There are 71 workers employed at the site.

Tyson Foods only acquired the business 12 months ago from BRF Wrexham Limited.
