Newcastle has been named as the ‘smartest’ city in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ in a guide to how technology is being used to improve people’s lives.
The city has been ranked 21st in the global Smart City Index, rising two places on last year’s ranking and in the process going ahead of London and Manchester to become the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s highest-ranked community.
The Smart City Index, which is compiled by the Smart City Observatory, surveys approximately 120 residents nearly 200 cities around the world on how technology has improved their lives. Cities are scored on 39 different measures in areas such as health and safety, opportunities, mobility and governance. Newcastle scored highly for cultural activities and health services, as well as its use of technology to improve services to the public.
