A new prospectus aimed at boosting the economy across the Midlands is being launched today at the University of Birmingham.

Eleven local enterprise partnerships have come together for the first time to submit their input to the document, called 'Midlands Engine Prospectus'.

The mission is to boost productivity, attract inward investment, increase connectivity and build a regional tourism offer.

The new prospectus is supported by Business Secretary and Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid and is focused on five key themes - skills, innovation, transport, promoting the 'Engine' and finance for business.

Mr Javid has also confirmed the region will receive £5 million of support for a new trade and investment package to reach new markets and boost exports.

He will lead the first 'Midlands Engine' trade mission next year to promote the region to investors and trade partners, aimed at delivering more growth, exports and jobs.

He said: "The Midlands is the heartland of our thriving manufacturing sector and home to 25 universities, playing a strong role in the recovery of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ economy.

"Over the last year, private sector employment in the Midlands grew more than three times faster than London and the South East.
