New housing development proposals have been submitted in Blackpool on a plot where a notable property was recently razed to make room for road expansion. An application asking for approval to erect nine new homes has been lodged with Blackpool Council, targeting land at the junction of School Road and Common Edge Road in the South Shore area.

The proposed project is set to include eight semi-detached dwellings and a single detached house. Earlier this year, a dwelling known as Southfields, located within the site area, was torn down to facilitate an £18.5 million road development to join Common Edge Road with Amy Johnson Way and enhance the junctions.

Previously, an adjacent plot had obtained planning consent in 2021 for the construction of a two-storey residential building, complemented by a detached garage, stables, landscaping, and suitable site access after removing current structures.

The documents accompanying the application detail that each new home would boast four bedrooms alongside a double garage. The submission further states: "This area of Marton Moss has a semi-rural feel, built up from a varying array of different traditional building styles. The proposed house designs are in-keeping with the traditional appearance of existing properties on School Road and Common Edge Road, being constructed predominantly in red brick with a tiled roof."

The new link road, set to open in August next year, will unlock 10.5 hectares of land for future business development as part of the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone, while also alleviating congestion on the existing business park. The application (reference 24/0481) is now set to be reviewed by Blackpool Council planners, reports .
