New family homes are set to be constructed as part of a regeneration project in an area one local leader says is currently "dominated by apartments."
Salford Council has given the green light to advance regeneration plans in Pendleton, with 477 homes planned around Clarendon Park south of Churchill Way. Lovell Together LL will acquire the land to commence the work.
More than 300 of these homes will be two, three or four-bedroom houses, while the remainder will be one or two-bed flats. Approximately 140 will be categorised as 'affordable' housing, with 86 allocated for social rent, reports .
Coun Tracy Kelly, Salford's housing lead, expressed her delight at the approval of the plans, describing it as "fantastic" news for the local community. "This all fits in with our plan to provide the affordable and social homes which local people need and deserve," she added.
"The proposed mix also builds family homes in an area dominated by apartments."
The plans also encompass enhancements to Clarendon Park, including new 'tranquil spaces' and tree and shrub planting. New allotments are also on the cards to promote healthier living among residents and support local wildlife.
This work forms part of a broader masterplan for regeneration in Pendleton that began in 2013, aiming to construct a total of 1,600 homes and transform the area into a 'neighbourhood of choice' within the city. The first batch of homes under this scheme was unveiled in December 2021.
Changes to the area have included improvements to its tower blocks to enhance fire safety.
However, residents of Thorn and Spruce Court, situated off Belvedere Road, have voiced their complaints about the buildings being left shrouded in scaffolding for an extended period.
