Plans have been unveiled for a landmark 'gateway building' in Eccles, which could bring 124 new flats to the town centre.

CERT, the developer, has lodged an application with Salford council for the project, which is set to be located on a former car dealership site between Albert Street and Peel Street.

Planning documents outline the ambition to construct 'a simple, sophisticated, contemporary brick apartment scheme befitting a sophisticated European city'.

The proposed location is near Eccles Shopping Centre, which is currently undergoing regeneration as part of a broader refurbishment of the town centre.

Demolition work on parts of the shopping centre commenced earlier this year, and Muse has recently been confirmed by Salford council as development partners for the project.

External design plans for the proposed new flat building include a shared community garden within an internal courtyard, complemented by seating areas and wildlife-friendly planting.

Improvements to roads and pavements are also on the cards, including two raised zebra crossings and dropped kerbs on Albert Street and Peel Street, along with widened pavements surrounding the site.

A design statement from CERT says: "The proposed residential development for Eccles town centre will create a new accommodation offering for the local residents.
