A new apartment block is set to be constructed in the heart of Heywood. The four-storey building, located between Bethel Street and Taylor Street off Earl Street, will comprise 23 flats, including studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, with four being offered at affordable rates.

Current planning documents reveal that the site is presently boarded off, although some sections of the boarding are of low quality and have collapsed.

The applicant, Mr Agron Elezi, plans to provide outdoor amenities for residents by incorporating balconies into each apartment's design. Given the central location of the apartment block, car parking spaces were deemed unnecessary, but ample cycle storage space has been included in the plans.

Planning documents state: "We feel that the proposal would be a valuable addition to the area by providing high quality and well-designed apartments in Heywood's town centre."

They also note that "The site was designed to consciously address security, privacy, accessibility and to create an architecturally interesting façade to contribute to the Earl Street, Taylor Street and Bethel Street street-scenes."

Rochdale Council has officially approved the plans.
