A national business conference will be launched from the North East next week to recognise the region鈥檚 place in the drive to net zero.

The CBI annual conference will kick off at the Port of Tyne, with the site hosting the organisation鈥檚 director-general Tony Dankers and a number of industry figures.

Part of the opening day session will be a discussion on how the North East will be a central part of Government鈥檚 targets to reduce carbon emissions.

It comes after the Port was chosen as the site for the operations and maintenance base for the massive Dogger Bank offshore wind farm, while it has also launched the Tyne Clean Energy Park as a base for the region鈥檚 renewable energy industry.

Port of Tyne chief executive officer Matt Beeton said: 鈥淭hanks to a highly collaborative approach, working with businesses and organisations in the region, the North East is ideally placed to become Britain鈥檚 heartbeat of the country鈥檚 drive towards net zero, not just locally, but nationally.

鈥淧eople will remember the huge impact on the country our shipbuilding had, our coal mining had, our railway engineering. Many of those industries have gone, but in their place is springing up the new generation of industry 鈥 new technologies, clean and renewable energy, electric vehicles, engineering and innovation to drive the country forward.

鈥淭his equates to jobs, social and economic transformation; local and regional rebuilding and unlocking the Tyne and beyond to the rest of not just the country, but the world.鈥

The CBI conference, called Seize The Moment, takes place from November 22 to 24, with live recordings taking place across the country over three days.

Monday鈥檚 session at the Port of Tyne will feature a panel discussion on transforming the 海角视频 economy. Panel members include Mr Beeton and Mr Danker, Nissan vice president for manufacturing and supply chain Kevin Fitzpatrick, Heidi Mottram, Northumbrian Water Group, and Gilbert Corrales, CEO of Leaf.

A second debate giving further regional perspectives, chaired by Port of Tyne chair Lucy Armstrong, will feature senior figures from Sage, Nissan, Dogger Bank and Newcastle College Group.

Later sessions in the CBI conference - which is being held virtually - will be broadcast from London, the Midlands, Northern Ireland and the South West.
