Mulbury submits plans for three apartment schemes in New Cross district

The plans are expected to be considered by Manchester city council in July 2020

Manchester property developer Mulbury has submitted plans for three new schemes comprised of 378 apartments in the district.

New Cross covers a historic area of Manchester stretching back from Swan Street, between Rochdale Road and Oldham Road - a network of formerly industrial Victorian streets.

Proposals have been submitted for a 13-storey building on Bendix Street - comprised of 161 apartments, communal lounges, an extensive roof terrace and ground floor commercial space -  and a 12-storey, 144-apartment development on Oldham Road, also with lounge, roof terrace, and ground floor commercial space.

Meanwhile, plans for a smaller scheme on Goulden Street would see the creation of 73 apartments, with the grade II-listed chimney of the former police, fire and ambulance station retained.

The plans are expected to be considered by Manchester city council in July 2020, the developer said.

Nick Leggett, senior development manager for Mulbury, said: “We’re proud to playing our part in the regeneration of New Cross and the wider Northern Gateway project, supporting Manchester city council’s strategic growth development aspirations.

“These three developments represent a significant investment in one of the city centre’s most exciting, emerging areas. They will bring inspiring, well-designed new buildings to New Cross while respecting existing buildings and heritage assets.”

Mulbury is working with Tim Groom Architects on the three schemes.
