Moseley retain rising stars Buster Lawrence and Olly Robinson

MOSELEY have made a positive start to their squad-building for next season by retaining two of the brightest stars of this - back rowers Olly Robinson and Buster Lawrence.

MOSELEY have made a positive start to their squad-building for next season by retaining two of the brightest stars of this - back rowers Olly Robinson and Buster Lawrence.

The Billesley Common outfit completed their inconsistent campaign with a home defeat to Bedford last Saturday, a result that left them in tenth position just above Jersey but well clear of relegated Doncaster.

That means Kevin Maggs's attention immediately turns to avoiding the fate that befell him last year when several of his best players were tempted away - a battle that is so often a rearguard action with Moseley's Championship rivals often able to offer more money.

However, Maggs has made an early sign of intent by securing the services of openside Robinson and back-five forward Lawrence, two of his standout players this term, both of whom have come from the relative obscurity of National League rugby to establish themselves as credible Championship players.

Indeed Lawrence has done so well in his 26 appearances, which included 16 starts and two tries, that he has been voted Supporters Player of the Year and picked up the Lionel Moriaty Memorial Boot after the Bedford game.

Even more admirably the 21-year-old, who was playing at Dings Crusaders last season and was never even spotted by his home-town club Bristol, has made an impact both as a lock and a flanker with his superb ball carrying and lineout work.

Robinson, meanwhile, has played 27 times, with 17 starts and also with two tries, including Moseley's final one of the season against the Blues last weekend.

Also 21, Robinson stepped up from Loughborough Students and has won his battle for the No. 7 shirt with Ben Pons after a string of creative and industrious performances.
