More traffic misery for M6 drivers in Castle Bromwich

Six months of new roadworks set to start next week which will add to congestion for drivers in already busy area

Overruning roadworks at Spitfire Island are about to be joined by a new set at nearby junction five

Motorists in north Birmingham are bracing themselves for another glut of roadworks as the nightmarish traffic jams look set to continue with the closure of an M6 junction.

Travellers using roads around Spitfire Island, where the A452 Chester Road meets Fort Parkway in have been to install a slip road and traffic lights on this island.

The area is already busy with workers leaving places such as Fort Dunlop and Jaguar and shoppers visiting The Fort, Castle Vale Retail Park and Ravenside Retail Park.

Highways England and contractor Kier have now outlined a new series of closures and diversions in the same vicinity which will commence on January 10 and last over six months.

The southbound slip road to join the M6 at junction five will be closed from Sunday for 25 weeks and the northbound slip road to leave the M6 will close overnight from Monday for one week.

Highways England has put a series of diversions in place to accommodate the closures:
