Millennium Point to host business growth event

BizBritain Finance will hold Birmingham Start Up Business Symposium focusing on helping to identify what is needed to enable the West Midlands to grow

Millennium Point will host the Business Symposium event later this month

An event is being held later this month to bring together business leaders and key stakeholders in the region to discuss future growth.

The focus of the event, being held in Birmingham, will be to define what is needed to create a new modern ecosystem of business support that will enable starts-ups to achieve long-term survival and create 50,000 new jobs in the region over the next three years.

The event has been organised by BizBritain Finance and is called Birmingham Start Up Business Symposium.

A panel debate will include Lucy Fairclough, associate director with KPMG, and Professor Monder Ram from the University of Birmingham.

The Midlands has had an average growth rate of 3.7 per cent, below the º£½ÇÊÓƵ average of 4.2 per cent.

It is estimated that, if the Midlands growth rate could be increased to match that of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, then an extra £34 billion could be added to the Midlands' economy in real terms by 2030.

An independent regional business report will be produced after the event which will provide a series of key recommendations for creating a new system of business support in the Midlands.

The report will be disseminated nationally through key networks, including directly with officials at the Department for Business and 10 Downing Street.
