Mike Olley tries to block fourth lap-dancing club opening on Broad Street

BID manager objects to Paradise Club application for a licence

Birmingham's Broad Street boss is battling to stop a fourth lap-dancing club opening on the city’s so-called Golden Mile.

Mike Olley, manager of the Broad Street Business Improvement District, has objected to plans for the venue, to be called Paradise.

He said he was determined Broad Street would not become like Hamburg's sleazy Reeperbahn.

“We have objected to this licence until we get further clarity and confirmation from the Paradise Club,” Mr Olley said.

“We have severe concerns and they are so strong we are raising a formal objection.

“This is a tactical objection until we can get clarity.

“We are determined Broad Street will not become a Reeperbahn – this is a mixed, family-friendly economy.”

Mr Olley said there were already enough lap-dancing clubs on the road, with the Rocket and Cyclone nightspots vying for trade with Legs 11.
