Police said that the men, aged 19 to 25, were being quizzed on suspicion of violent disorder and were from Sheldon, Hall Green, Billesley and Bordesley Green.

Mike Olley, manager of Broad Street Business Improvement District, has now urged police to pursue the mob with the same vigour that looters were brought to justice with following the summer riots in 2011.

He claimed that the trouble erupted after a group were ‘ejected’ from the Gatecrasher nightclub.

“We have CCTV up and down the street and in venues, we have scanning devices, with a full investigation we can identify everyone involved.

“Just as there was a clampdown after the riots two years ago, I would like to see the full force of the law brought to bear on this mob.”
