Engineering firm creates new jobs on back of project wins as it enjoys rise in demand

Mec Com's managing director Richard Bunce

Engineering firm Mec Com has secured £8 million worth of new contracts with two of the world's biggest names in manufacturing.

The company, which employs 120 staff, will deliver assembly and testing for Siemens and a large manufacturing package for ALSTOM Grid.

Mec Com specialises in areas such as sheet metal fabrication, electromechanical assembly and test and transformer assembly.

Supported with strategic and financial assistance from the , the company has used the influx in new business to drive a £1 million investment into a second facility and new equipment.

Mec Com's managing director Richard Bunce said: "Over the last six months, we have enjoyed a rise in demand for new products, including machining and fabrication work for the offshore wind sector and orders from customers in power generation and food processing.

"More and more clients are looking to reduce their supplier base and overall procurement costs by placing more of their bill of material requirements with us.

"As part of the growth, we've taken on 10 new people in customer support, purchasing, assembly and in engineering."

MAS has been assisting Mec Com for some time, working with the management team to fine tune its business development strategy so that it can appeal to OEMs looking to outsource non-core manufacturing activities.
