Loves Restaurant to shut down after six years

Husband and wife team who launched eponymous restaurant in 2009 say they now want to concentrate on consultancy business

An award-winning restaurant founded during the depths of the recession is to close at the end of the month.

Loves Restaurant, in Browning Street near Brindleyplace, was founded by husband and wife team Steve and Claire Love after they decided to move their restaurant from Warwickshire to Birmingham in 2009.

Within four months of launching, they had received three AA Rosettes and have since been listed in the Top 100 Best Restaurants in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ for four years.

Chef-patron Mr Love said the couple had decided not to renew the lease of the building at the end of the six-year tenure and would now concentrate on Loves Consultancy which offers advice to independent restaurants on menus, kitchen design, front-of-house training and wine lists.

"Claire and I have had an enormously successful and really enjoyable time here in Birmingham," he said.

"However, there are so many things that we have going on and maintaining the restaurant in the city was going to be increasingly more difficult."

Wine expert Claire added: "We could work eight days a week just on the consultancy."

They said the decision would allow them to spend more time at home in Warwickshire with their family, including their two young children.
