Salaries in Liverpool dropped faster than any other English city during the last quarter of 2019, new research has revealed.

The latest quarterly job market report from CV Library showed average salaries for new jobs in Liverpool fell by 4.4%, the º£½ÇÊÓƵ's second largest drop behind Glasgow, where they fell 4.7%.

The report from the job search website looks at market data throughout Q4 2019 and compares it with findings from the previous year.

The five cities where average pay saw the steepest drop were:

  1. Glasgow (down 4.7%)
  2. Liverpool (down 4.4%)
  3. London (down 3.4%)
  4. Brighton (down 3.1%)
  5. Sheffield (down 2.2%)

Despite the drop in wages, Liverpool was actually one of the top cities to find a job in, with vacancies increasing by 11.3% during the period.

Lee Biggins, CEO and founder of , said: “It’s no surprise that salaries were substantially lower in Q4 2019 than in the previous year. The final few months of 2019 saw a great deal of political uncertainty; between the original Brexit deadline and the December General Election, businesses were forced to tighten their belts and prepare for the worst.

"For people thinking about moving jobs, this certainly puts the pressure on to master the art of negotiation; especially if you want to earn a higher wage.

"What’s more, job applications in Liverpool have fallen by 6.3% as a result, the third-steepest decrease amongst key cities. Interestingly, applications across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ as a whole actually rose by 7.6%."
