Liverpool Council has unveiled plans to establish a brand new town, dubbed 'Liverpool North', across northern Liverpool towards Bootle. This project aims to revive brownfield sites with thousands of new homes and will involve a submission to the government for New Town status.

The development would stretch some 5km from north of Liverpool city centre through areas such as Everton, Anfield, Kirkdale, and on into Bootle, integrating various brownfield locations and notable landmarks. Among these is Everton FC's much-discussed £500m stadium at Bramley Moore Dock and the £20m Bootle New Strand development project.

Liverpool Council has orchestrated efforts with partners such as Sefton Council, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Homes England, and principal landowners in the district. Cllr Liam Robinson, leader of Liverpool Council, told that the scheme mirrors "the scale of ambition we want to see within the city."

New Town status can be given to certain areas in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ that are undergoing significant redevelopment These designated zones are typified by a blend of mature and modern residential units, commercial units, and updated infrastructure.

The city council has highlighted the 5km Liverpool North area as a prime candidate for urban expansion and regeneration, with the potential to accommodate approximately 10,000 new homes under the New Town status initiative. The development is set to complement a series of other local authority projects, including County Road enhancements connecting Goodison Park to Bramley-Moore Dock and the Toffee Trail legacy project, which aims to create a new walking and cycling route to facilitate housing site development.

Along with housing providers and Liverpool FC, similar initiatives are being planned to drive housing and mixed-use developments in the Anfield area, featuring a "Red Walk" pathway.

"We put in expression of interest to the government's New Towns task force to develop this within north Liverpool all the way up to Bootle on a number of different sites that are vacant, as well as the potential for significant upgrades of existing houses, in that corridor all the way from the city centre up to Bootle, that could see 10,000 homes developed.

"I think that's the sort of scale of ambition we want to see within the city that would be a huge regeneration, and when you think about some of the areas that it picks up, particularly around County Road, particularly around Goodison Park and the legacy going forward."
