Midland MP Michael Fabricant sacked from a senior party role

Midland MP Michael Fabricant has been sacked from a senior party role after tweeting ‘about time’ after Maria Miller’s resignation.

The Lichfield Tory revealed on the social networking site he had been asked to resign as Vice Chairman of the party.

The flamboyant MP, known for his shock of blonde hair and enthusiasm for Twitter had also come out as opposing the HS2 plan earlier this week.

Tonight Mr Fabricant said: “Been asked to resign as Vice Chairman, refused, so sacked over HS2 and my views on a recent Cabinet Minister. Still available 4 speeches etc

“Thanks for all the lovely tweets. Look: I am still a Conservative MP and my personality and twitter fingers are undiminished! I ain’t dead!”

He spoke out on the social networking site after former Culture Secretary Mrs Miller resigned following a row over her expenses.

Shortly afterwards Mr Fabricant tweeted: “BREAKING: Maria Miller has resigned. Well, about time. And just before #PMQs today.”

Ironically, given what happened subsequently, he also said: “Note to self: If ever a minister again, be like Mark Harper. If in trouble, resign quickly & in a dignified manner. Lesson to us all.”
