Birmingham restaurant Le Monde has been named Best Seafood Establishment across the Midlands in the annual Food Awards England awards.

At an awards evening in Manchester, Le Monde general manager Gemma Meah was commended for the range and quality of seafood on offer at the restaurant.

The Brindleyplace Mediterranean-style fish restaurant opened its doors in August 2014.

It specialises in serving meat and fish selected by diners from a food counter.

The Birmingham restaurant is the second Le Monde, the original having been founded in Cardiff almost 30 years ago.

It is located in a former office unit on the corner of Central Square and The Water’s Edge, above Cafe Rouge, and represented a £400,000 investment by its owners.

Serving everything from lobster to fish and chips, it has introduced daily specials and launched an oyster bar featuring hot and chilled oysters. It also serves a range of steaks, poultry and vegetarian dishes.

Ms Meah said: “We are thrilled with the award and our thanks go to all of our customers who nominated us.
