The Labour Party has announced it will return to Liverpool for its annual conference in 2025, marking the fourth consecutive year the city will host the event. Last month, Liverpool welcomed a Labour government and thousands of delegates at ACC Liverpool for a five-day event, with an estimated attendance of around 20,000 people as the party celebrated its return to power after 14 years.
Local leaders are eager to capitalise on the economic benefits, which are believed to have brought approximately £30m to the city's economy from the 2024 conference.
At the first cabinet meeting of the city council since the conference, Cllr Liam Robinson, leader of the Labour group and authority, commended the "very successful conference" and praised the police, security agencies and council staff who "made the event so successful and seamless."
He added: "We already know the economic impact for the city is in the region of £30m by having delegates and others from across the country coming in and spending money in our hotels, bars, restaurants and retail economy. What was probably even better was not only did we host the government, but the deep engagement we had as a city council and a city region."
Cllr Robinson also highlighted the productive meeting with ministers and looked forward to the benefits it would bring in the years to come. He stated that hosting the conference for the fourth consecutive year was another chance to promote the city to the government and the wider nation, reports .
Liverpool has a long history of hosting the Labour Party, having welcomed delegates in 2011, 2016, 2018, 2022, and 2023. Faye Dyer, Chief Executive of The ACC Liverpool Group, said: "It has been a pleasure to welcome the Labour Party and their delegates back to our venue for the third consecutive year.
"The whole city works together to organise and deliver a major conference of this scale. Planning for an event of this size takes months and we have worked in partnership with Merseyside Police and our city partners to deliver a safe and successful event."
Angela Rayner MP, Deputy Prime Minister, said: "We are proud to host our conference in Liverpool and appreciate how much work goes into organising an event on this scale, especially as we are now the party in power. Our thanks go out to the team at ACC Liverpool and their partners for making it such a successful event. We look forward to coming again next year."
