Key North East industries will be marketed to the world as part of Government efforts to attract inward investment to the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

The programme, run by the Department for International Trade, invited Local Enterprise Partnerships from around the º£½ÇÊÓƵ to submit bids to join the scheme.

In the North East four investment projects were selected and will now be promoted around the globe.

In the North East LEP area, healthy ageing and plant-based products have been chosen, while the Tees Valley has selected biomanufacturing and heat networks.

The latest projects were selected as part of the second round of the HPO programme and will be marketed to 177 international cities.

The healthy ageing sector is aiming to meet the needs of an ageing society and ensure people can enjoy at least five extra healthy, independent years by 2035.

Coun Ged Bell, cabinet member for employment and culture at Newcastle City Council, said: “As a city our vision is to create a place where people can live well for longer and our research credentials, expertise and approach to collaboration makes us the go-to place for healthy ageing related innovation.
