Organisers of the have announced there are fewer than 1,000 places remaining for the Midlands鈥 biggest half marathon.

Double Commonwealth gold medallist, triathlete Jodie Stimpson, will be the official starter on Sunday October 19.

With just over two weeks until the big day, organisers are predicting a record field, expected to be in excess of the 20,000 runners who registered for the 2013 run.

Entries are set to close in the next seven days.

Celebrities taking part include BBC Inside Out presenter Andy Akinwolere, Hollyoaks star Mandip Gill and Team England Commonwealth bronze medallist, table tennis player Kelly Sibley.

Elite runners include England鈥檚 Steve Way, who finished 10th in this summer鈥檚 Commonwealth Games marathon; he will be taking on the defending 2013 champion, Uganda鈥檚 Thomas Ayeko.

David Hart, communications director for the Bupa Great Birmingham Run, said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e thrilled that this will be our biggest year ever.

鈥淣ot only are there more runners than ever before in the senior event, we also have record entries for the Junior and Mini events and over 500 people from more than 50 local companies taking part in the Business Challenge.

鈥淲e鈥檇 urge anyone who wants to guarantee they鈥檒l be at the start line in two weeks鈥 time to register this weekend; we don鈥檛 want anyone who鈥檚 been busy training to miss out at this late stage.鈥
