Eastern Airways is returning a summer service to Jersey from its Humberside home.

The regional airline will touch down in the Channel Islands next month, with a 45 per cent increase in capacity on previous years as demand is expected to soar due to current travel restrictions.

The weekly flights are operated in partnership with CI Travel Group and Premier Holidays, and it comes just days after the company touched down in Gibraltar on a new route from Southampton.

Eastern's general manager, Roger Hage, said: "Given the º£½ÇÊÓƵ staycation growth, especially for this summer, we are bringing this popular service back to Humberside.

“As passenger confidence increases following the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s relaxation of restrictions, we want to ensure the right services are being offered. Eastern Airways is all about supporting the regions of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, connecting people and places, so commencing Jersey will offer a welcome º£½ÇÊÓƵ break destination from Humberside.

“Recent new leisure additions such as Gibraltar from Birmingham and Southampton and Newquay from Leeds-Bradford, while both restoring and adding further services at hubs we already serve, are another crucial part of increasing connectivity and aiding economic recovery.”

Jersey, previously operated by Flybe then Loganair, will complement the Aberdeen service that has operated continuously from the Humber region airport since Eastern launched in 1997. KLM looks set to return its Amsterdam service from June 28, subject to the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and Dutch travel situation.

Deborah Zost, managing director at Humberside Airport, said: “We are very pleased that Eastern Airways has confirmed it will continue the well-established service.
