Humber Zero team embrace first opportunity to present £1.2b plans at The Waterline Summit

Refinery complex clean-up bid is embarking on front end engineering and design having progressed through the pandemic

The team behind a £1.2 billion decarbonisation project designed to clean up the South Bank’s refining cluster are looking forward to the first face-to-face opportunity to present the work.

Humber Zero is led by Phillips 66 and VPI Immingham, the neighbouring refinery and heat and power plant.

The major infrastructure project aims to use carbon capture and storage technology to eliminate emissions from the heavy industry, linking up with the wider V Net Zero transportation project. It will then pipe the CO2 to depleted gas caverns in the near North Sea. Carbon trading and shipping hub proposals for Port of Immingham also feature.

Humber Zero is hosting an event as part of the looming Waterline Summit – a high profile week-long conference highlighting regional advances internationally.

Keynote speakers include a distinguished environmental speaker who has consented more than 20 energy and power plants - and is working on Keadby Three on the Humber - carbon capture experts and education professionals who will explain what is involved and the opportunities it could create for young people.

Phillips 66 º£½ÇÊÓƵ decarbonisation lead and technical manager at Humber Refinery, Chris Gilbert, said: “It has been a little frustrating that, because of the pandemic, we have not been able to explain a hugely significant project with stakeholders face-to-face.

“This event is a chance to rectify that. We are grateful to our keynote speakers and promise an informative session that will cover the basics around decarbonisation and the importance of industry linking with education to help them deliver the skills and workforce of the future.”
