The growing number of green skilled jobs on offer in the region has been showcased at two recent events.

Parents, children and careers leaders were invited to dates organised by the Hull and East Yorkshire LEP Careers & Enterprise Hub which put top employers requiring green skills on centre stage. The Hub partnered with Centrica, Orsted and Wood PLC who demonstrated the entry routes and breath of careers available within their fields.

The first of the events, the Hub's annual summer conference, saw careers leaders, employers and members of the student voice project attend the MKM Stadium in Hull. Here they heard from Graeme Davies, project director for Viking CCS project, Harbour Energy about how the business wants to encourage and empower young people to take up the opportunities within growing industries.

Mr Davies told young people present about how they were the future of the region's green agenda.

At a second event called We Discover Green, hosted at the Aura Innovation Centre in partnership with Hull University and the Leicester and Leicestershire Careers Hub, young people and parents heard presentations from Centrica, Orsted and Wood PLC. Attendees also got the opportunity to meet and interact with the employers.

Centrica, alongside green tech start-up HiiRoc, recently submitted plans to develop a hydrogen pilot plant alongside its Brigg Power Station. The move followed a successful bid to the Net Zero Technology Centre's £8m Open Innovation Programme.

And Danish offshore giant Orsted has recently gained permission to develop the fourth and final part of the Hornsea Zone wind farms, off the east coast. Meanwhile Wood PLC is involved in Pensana's plans to bring a sustainable rare earth separation plant to Saltend Chemicals Park.
