A huge socially distanced march is to take place in Manchester today to raise awareness of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ's touring, festivals and events industry that could see "60%" of jobs lost if action isn't taken by the Government.

The #WeMakeEvents campaign will see action taken across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ on Tuesday, however Manchester will be the only location to hold a march.

According to the campaign, which is backed by top politicians and musicians, there are 114,000 jobs at risk in the industry, with many businesses fearing they may not be running by the end of the year.

The march will take place at lunchtime, passing some of the city's most iconic venues, many of which remain shuttered.

Those taking part will include truck drivers, producers, engineers, tour managers, security staff and cleaners, as well as the raft of freelancers and self-employed people left penniless since March.

It's hoped the march will act as a rallying cry for more government support for the industry, which has been mostly halted since the Covid-19 pandemic began.

Among the backers are mayor Andy Burnham, nighttime economy adviser Sacha Lord, The Courteneers, Paul Heaton, Blossoms, Nile Rodgers and Mani.
