HS2 launches major recruitment drive in Birmingham

Government department delivering first phase of new high-speed line is on the hunt for new recruits in the city

A fresh recruitment drive has been launched today in Birmingham to work on HS2

A major recruitment drive for hundreds of new staff to work on phase one of HS2 in Birmingham has been launched today.

Around 300 new roles are available on the project to build a high-speed rail line between Birmingham and London, including jobs in engineering, project management and property.

The three-month recruitment campaign will push the total number of jobs the project has supported to more than 10,000 once the successful candidates are in place, HS2 said.

The jobs boost follows the Government giving the project the final green light in February while main construction work on the new line is due to start within the coming weeks.

Last week, a shortlist of three firms was announced to build the first of four new HS2 stations in Birmingham city centre.

The others will be in Solihull east of Birmingham Airport and two in the capital, with the first phase of the new line due to be completed by 2031 and later phases to the North West, East Midlands and Yorkshire by 2040.

HS2 Minister Andrew Stephenson said: "These jobs are a welcome boost for workers across the country at this challenging time, providing the opportunity to play a crucial part in delivering HS2, an integral part of improving connectivity and levelling up our country.
